FROM THE TRANSPORTATION DIVISION CHAIR

Time for another change in the manner in which the Division has been operating. In this E-News release will be the information concerning the candidates for the Division’s Offices of Chair-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. The elections will be held electronically and I will send an email to the membership later this month on how to do your voting. The installation of the new officers will be held at the SLA Annual Conference in Toronto at the “Brown Bag” Business Meeting on Monday, June 6. Those being voted into office need to be available to attend a training session on Sunday, June 5 at the Annual Conference. Thus, the newly elected officers and Bob Sweet as the new Chair for the Division will not be able to attend the GTRIC Meeting on Sunday.

Conference Planning is basically finished. If you go to the SLA web site you will find the Conference Planner and by searching under Division – Transportation, you will get a list of our planned activities. Remember the GTRIC meeting is really a good buy, since you get treats in the morning, lunch and all day to network with your fellow members of the Transportation Division. Costs will be $55.

There is no charge for the business meeting, since it will be a “Brown Bagger”. Please come and meet the new officers and hear who has been selected as a recipient for the Division’s Professional Development Award.

Our Open House will be a little different. We have decided to charge $10, mainly to get a count of how many people to expect at the function. We have the opportunity to see the IBI Group office in Toronto and have their Librarian, Jenny Osther, (who just happens to be a member of the Transportation Division) serve as our hostess. So don’t forget to purchase a ticket for this event on Tuesday evening.

We will have at least one no-host dinner on Sunday evening. The Transportation member helping with these arrangements is Aarash, Kalra. I will announce more about this at a later date.
