FROM THE TRANSPORTATION DIVISION CHAIR
Season’s Greetings! As I sit to write this column, only 19
days are left for shopping for the December 25th holiday. Thankfully
my shopping is done, since I will be traveling for work from December
12 through December 21.
I have placed our events on the planner’s calendar for the
annual convention. SLA Headquarters has sent the preliminary program
booklet for approval. There is a minor problem with trying to cross-index
events when more than one Division is the sponsor. Check out the
SLA website for travel and hotel arrangements. Registration will
open the first week in January. Early bird registration will be
$275 and must be done by May 1.
I hear the Nominating Committee has a slate of candidates. This
year we will be electing the candidates before the convention.
Elections will be conducted electronically – so watch your
email for the announcements.
January 26 through 29th Bob Sweet and I will be traveling to Tampa,
Florida to attend the 2005 SLA Leadership Summit. This year’s
theme is “Leading to Succeed: Developing Skills for Your
Future.” This conference is open to anyone wanting to sharpen
their leadership skills. For the first time, SLA is not requiring
the group of Division and Cabinet leaders for the upcoming convention
to attend. All of the planning for conference will be complete
since the program booklet is due for distribution in February.
This will be the beginning of changes for those who will be serving
as Division or Chapter leaders. The next change, is the reason,
we will be having our elections before conference. The newly elected
officers need to attend leadership training on Sunday, June 5,
at the annual conference.
