8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Meet the Social Science Division: Personal Narratives
Co-hosted by Lyle Minter, Division Chair and Hetty Barthel, Chair-Elect.  Learn about the different libraries and institutions in which members work as you meet and mingle with colleagues.  New and potential division members are especially welcomed.  Light refreshments will be served.

9:00 p.m. - 12:00 midnight. Social Science Open House
Meet, greet and cap off the evening at this open house of friendly people.   Find out what's hot this year at the conference.

7:30 - 8:45 a.m. Annual Business Meeting and Breakfast
All Division members are invited to attend the annual business meeting and breakfast. This is a perfect time to share in the division's accomplishments, recognize division award winners, and thank our sponsors.

12:00 - 1:15 p.m. Health Care Information for the Underserved
Is medical care keeping up with the needs of the "underserved"? In the U.S. the "underserved" include ethnic minorities, the poor, those living in rural areas as well as the inner city. Is medical information finding its way to these groups? Has it improved with the advent on online access to health information? This program will examine success stories and consider how the medical profession contributes and how medical and public health information professionals contribute to health care information for the underserved.

How can you capitalize on the latest technology to integrate materials from throughout your organization and provide staff access to the key documents in a well-organized, user-friendly manner?  Join us for a look at how one organization, Pew Charitable Trusts, is using 21st century technology to manage their archives collection, and hear about the challenges of implementation.

4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Digital Projects: Partnerships for Success
Cooperative projects between US government agencies and corporations have provided amazing digital projects. How did these public-private partners negotiate and overcome the challenges of producing digital projects?  This program will examine the technological, procedural, financial and intellectual elements that have contributed to a successful project at the Census Bureau.

4:30 - 6:30 p.m. International Reception and Wine-Tasting
Relax; sample a little Texas wine; meet the 2001 European Special Librarian of the Year Award recipient; welcome international attendees; enjoy the Riverwalk view; join Social Science Division, International Relations Committee, and European Chapter members.  To be held in the River Terrace, Marriott Riverwalk Hotel—directly across from Convention Center.

12:00 noon - 1:15 p.m. Annual Division Luncheon
All SLA members are invited to hear Mr. Harry J. Middleton, Director of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, TX since 1970 and a speechwriter during the last half of the Johnson presidency.  Recently, he made the decision to release Lyndon Johnson's secret White House recordings. According to Texas Monthly, "The rest is history.  No one could have imagined then that of all the luminaries and loyalists who had toiled in the White House, he, more than anyone except Johnson himself, would determine how history would view his former boss."

In this time of tight budgets, libraries sometimes find they have to justify their existence to a tough board of directors or government agency.  This panel, composed of experts in the areas of lobbying and library survival techniques, will help lobbying librarians facing challenges now and in the future.

More and more government information and official correspondence is being distributed electronically.How can we make sure that future researchers will be able to access electronic information? What are the issues, technological and human, that have shaped the debate over saving our electronic heritage?

1:00 - 2:15 p.m. Around the World in 80 Minutes:  Social Science Research from an International Perspective
The World Wide Web is erasing geopolitical boundaries and creating a truly international panorama of resources. This panel discussion will examine the process of research in three social science fields from an international perspective:  Law, Economics, and Psychology/Social Work.  Panel members will discuss research methods they have found useful in conducting international research, and key international issues in their respective fields.
