DISCUSSION LIST

SLA-DPHT@lists.sla.org

SLA-DPHT is an electronic discussion group open to all members of SLA who hold an individual membership to the organization. The list is a forum for participants to solicit help in answering reference inquiries, evaluating information resources, or locating specific documents. Other postings typically include announcements of forthcoming meetings, educational opportunities, and employment positions currently available. Although the list is not moderated, the Division's List Administrator is available to authorize requests to join and to assist with other communication issues.

The current list administrator is Julia Parker of the University of Washington.

Message From the List Administrator:

All, A couple of issues have come up recently regarding the discussion list.

Over 100 subscriber e-mail addresses were in a "held" state. That means you were not receiving any e-mails from the list. I had to manually reinstate your account to "normal" status so you would receive e-mail.

To avoid this issue in the future: If you are out-of-the-office, it's best to UNSUBSCRIBE from the list and RESUBSCRIBE when you return. Setting your e-mail to "out-of-office" makes the system think your e-mail address is invalid, and it throws it into the "held" status. Unfortunately, no one, not even I, knows that it's in this state. SLA Lists has no other means of handling out-of-office messages, and has no plans to change its system.

List Nettiquette

Participants on this list are asked to be tolerant and courteous. Messages sent should relate to issues of interest to members of the Pharmaceutical and Health Technology Division of SLA. The goal of this list is to promote networking. If problems arise, they should be referred to the Division Chair or List Manager, as should any comments and suggestions on the functioning and policy of the list.

Bouncing Messages

Please don't send messages to the list about bounced messages. Send such messages only to the list manager.

Vendor Announcements Policy

Announcements from vendors of products and/or services can be posted on the Pharmaceutical and Health Technology's list provided that they are "announcements" rather than "advertisements". An announcement will be a notice about a NEW product or service that is a newsworthy event. It should not be a standard advertisement of ongoing services and/or products. In addition, repetitious statements about the company and blatant marketing statements should be avoided in the announcement. "VENDOR ANNOUNCEMENT - VENDOR NAME" should be added to the subject line so it is clear to all readers what they are reading. All vendor announcements should include the sender's name, firm name, and contact information so it is clear who is posting and that the Division is not endorsing the product/service.

If there is any doubt about the posting of a message to the list, the Pharmaceutical and Health Technology Division Chair or the list moderator has the right not to post it.

BLOG

Pharmaceutical & Health Technology Division blog

http://phtd.wordpress.com

What is it and what’s it for?

We set up the blog to fill some community needs that we’ve heard from the division:
  • A place to keep up with P&HT-related news and ideas, both business specific as well as profession-specific, and a threaded forum for discussion these. (e.g. trends in corporate librarianship, useful tools)
  • A place to keep up with P&HT-relevant technology (e.g. new developments in search, such as Wolfram Alpha and Microsoft Kumo).
  • A forum for continuing discussions during and after events such as SLA Annual, PHTD Spring Meeting, and/or webinars
  • A place to share experiences and best practices amongst the PHT community

The P&HT Division blog is not a replacement for the P&HT website, the listserv, or Caplits.

Who’s blogging?

For now, the bloggers are Alex Feng (Secretary), Bob Kowalski (Treasurer), and Margaret Basket (Chair-Elect). But we’re looking for contributors - if you’re interested in contributing, please do contact any of the board members and we’ll be glad to add you to the list!

Can I contribute / blog?

Absolutely! Just let us know – we’re especially looking for guest bloggers during the upcoming 2009 Annual conference! And if you’ve never tried your hand at blogging but have thoughts to share, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!
