Maria A.Latyszewskyj

Head, Environment Canada Library

The annual meeting of the Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA) Board took place on Wed. Jan. 14, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona in conjunction with the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting and the Atmospheric Science Librarians International (ASLI) annual conference.

MGA continues to be the prime source for information on meteorology, climatology and atmospheric science literature. MGA Editorial board has been working with publishers to ensure a more timely appearance of citation entries.
There has been a big improvement in timeliness this past year. There has been a significant increase in the annual number of new entries added in 2008.

757 serial titles are monitored and 24 serial sources were added to the monitoring list in 2008.

Some new titles that are monitored are as of 2008:

  • Asian Journal of Earth SciencesAsian Journal of Scientific Research
  • Engineering Journal of Wuhan University / Wuhan Daxue Xuebao
  • Geography and Natural Resources
  • Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law
  • Nature Geoscience
  • Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
  • Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics
  • Rasayan Journal of Chemistry, Southern Forests
  • The Astronomical Journal
  • The Open Applied Physics Journal
  • Vegetation History and Archaeobotany

MGA is a good source of conference papers and grey literature. Thesis (in the subject areas specified below) are now being added to further enrich access to grey literature. Presently, they are mainly Ph.D dissertations.A new brochure will be coming out later in 2009.

MGA editors welcome suggestions and contributions to the database - especially reports, conference proceedings and other grey literature. Please send items / grey literature that you think should be included in the database to: Christopher Readinger at ProQuest, 7200 Wisconsin Ave. #601, Bethesda, MD 20814 USA (christopher.readinger at proquest.com)
