Message from the Chair

PAM News

Zari Kamerei

Welcome to the New Year! In January, Emily Poworoznek became PAM Chair-elect. Please join me in congratulating her. PAM is a great division because of all of you and your volunteer work! So, please continue to volunteer for the leadership positions in PAM. I would like to thank and acknowledge all the people who have filled the elected and other positions.

I attended the SLA Leadership Summit in Savanna, Georgia. I learned many things about planning conferences, and I fine tuned the already planned 2009 sessions. The most important thing on everyone's mind was the budget woes. I am sure all of you are planning for the budget crisis; I know we are in Carolina. SLA leaders are in the same mood. They are thinking on how to make it easier on members of SLA in these tough economic times. To help the members they announced the following:

  • Click-U Live sessions are free for every one.
  • The membership price is more affordable now.

If you make above $35000, your membership is $160, if you make less that $35000, but above $18,000 your membership is $99, and if you make less than $18,000 your membership is $35. This helps our members to continue their membership in tough times.

Alignment Project was also discussed. What is this project? According to our leaders "SLA has embarked on a thorough examination to bring clarity and unity to the core identity and values of the Association and the profession. This alignment project will not only help refine our current positioning in the marketplace, but provide a framework for discussing the inherent value in the profession and the Association in a clear, compelling and cohesive voice." You can find more information here.

Our plans for the Annual Conference in Washington DC are being finalized. We have our usual Roundtables, business meetings, open house, and daily retreats. We have two additional extra special sessions. On Monday evening, June 15, we have a tour of the U.S. Naval Observatory and On Tuesday June 16, 9:30-11:00 we have a PAM History session. I am very excited about all of our sessions, and I hope you join me for a wonderful conference in Washington DC!

Sincerely,

Zari Kamarei
