Membership News
PAM currently has 231 members, with a number of member renewals still in process from the end of the year. So that number is expected to grow a little bit in the next few weeks. When renewing your membership, please double check that your chapters and divisions will also be renewed along with your association membership. If you have any questions about your membership status, feel free to e-mail me or contact SLA headquarters at membership@sla.org. PAMNet Non-Member Survey During late October and early November 2007, a brief survey was conducted of non-PAM members currently subscribed to the PAMNet listserv to determine why they have not chosen to join PAM. The survey was distributed via e-mail to 400 individuals and 133 responses were received resulting in a 33% survey response rate. About 30% of those who responded indicated they are committed to other associations with ALA and ASEE topping the list. Other reasons for not joining included not being a librarian (many work for publishers), recently retired, not based in the US, or changing job focus outside of PAM, but not wanting to completely leave this group behind. Issues raised in the survey included concern from non-US members about the expense of membership and travel costs to conferences; uncertainty about SLA headquarters support for academic librarians; and difficulties finding time and money to commit to multiple associations or divisions. There were numerous positive comments and appreciation expressed for PAMNet discussions and the PAM membership as a whole including de-scriptions such as: educational and informative, great resource, at the cutting edge, energetic and determined, "best group of librarians I've found", PAM rocks! So take a moment to pat yourselves on the back and keep up the good work!
