Creating RSS Feeds for SpringerLink Book Series Volumes

One of our technical services librarians figured out this method of  creating RSS feeds to newly-added online volumes of specific Springer book series on SpringerLink. We had switched to online-only access for  Lecture Notes in Computer Science and our first attempts at creating RSS
feeds only gave us individual articles recently added to this service,  not entire volumes. It should work for any of the Springer book series  available online, including Lecture Notes in Mathematics, Lecture Notes  in Physics, and ESO Astrophysics Symposia.

1. Go to www.springerlink.com
2. Click on "Book Series" under "Content type"
3. Type your favorite book series name in the search box ("Find")
4. Select "Within these results"
5. Click on "Go"
6. Select the series you want
7. Click on the RSS feed button
8. Use whatever RSS reader you use to subscribe (it doesn't have to be  one of the default readers listed)

Of course, steps 3-5 can be substituted by the many ways you can get to the book series you want, but step 2 is the key. DO NOT select  "SpringerLink Date" to locate the series; this will only give you individual articles/chapters added to SpringerLink. Now if we could only get MARC records the same way!

I'm planning to attend the Springer Library Advisory Board meeting immediately after ALA Midwinter on January 14-15, 2008 in New York City. Please let me know of any concerns and comments you may have so I may bring them to Springer's attention.
