Message from the Chair-Elect
Parker Ladwig
Greetings!
As most of you know, I’ll be your Chair for 2008. I’m busy planning the Seattle conference, but let me tell you a little about Denver 2007. We had the usual set of PAM meetings and roundtables (board meeting, business meeting, PAM-wide, physics, astronomy, mathematics, computer science) and from the exit surveys, everything went very well. Our special sessions went well, too, including the very popular “Spectacles: How Pop-Culture Views Librarian,” and the Chamberlin Observatory tour was fascinating. Of course, our social events were also quite a hit: the Newcomers'
Luncheon, Early-Bird Dinner, PAM Open Houses, PAM Daily Retreats, and
the IT/PAM Golddigger's Ball (apparently THE place to be). Lastly, we
recognized Bob Michaelson by honoring him with the PAM Achievement
Award! Thanks to Joe Kraus (who brought it all together) and to all of
the volunteers and sponsors. The only difficulty is trying to live up to their success.
In addition to preparing for the conference, I’ve been working on a number of things related to PAM governance. In this Bulletin issue, you’ll find a list of the PAM officers for 2007-2008 and get a chance to read the minutes from the PAM Board Meeting and Business Meeting. You’ll see an announcement for the upcoming election of a Chair-elect and Treasurer. You’ll also see a brief overview of a survey of PAM members who aren’t subscribed to PAMnet.
PAM is a dynamic division, and I’m glad to serve. I’ll do my best to continue PAM’s focus on helping each other serve our physics, astronomy, and/or mathematics communities well. Let’s have a great year!
