Public Relations Committee: PAM Logo

Melissa Hilbert mhilbert@cfa.harvard.edu
Kristi Jensen kjensen@umn.edu

In 2004, the PAM Public Relations Committee was charged with developing alternative logo marks to present to the membership. The graphics department at IOP (Institute of Physics) generously donated their services for this project and provided us with some spectacular and exciting results. The logos will be presented to the membership for a vote at a future date, but the committee wanted to present the background of this project and the results for your perusal.

Based on basic information about who we are and what we are hoping to accomplish with a new logo, a graphic designer provided us with several viable options. One of the goals of a new logo would be to tie PAM more closely with SLA's new logo either through similar font or color choices. In addition, a new logo should be easily transferable across various presentation mediums, for example letterhead, badge ribbons, web pages, signage for meetings, press releases, etc. Another hope in the redesign process was to present a more modern, professional face to the organization while still maintaining ties to the historical logo. Finally, the new logo should also convey our image as a focused, inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic group.

We are happy to report that the alternatives presented here successfully meet these goals. Please review the logos presented here: pam_logos_bulletin.pdf. Examples of the logos as they could be used on the PAM website are also included.

We will formally present the logos for discussion and a vote at the annual meeting in June. If you are unable to attend or prefer to provide your feedback now, feel free to contact Melissa Hilbert, mhilbert@cfa.harvard.edu, Chair of the PAM Public Relations Committee or Kristi Jensen, kjensen@umn.edu, PAM Public Relations Committee member.
