Hawaii Calls: A. Kathleen (Kathy) Robertson has succumbed to the siren song of the Islands, and, in August, is returning to the Institute for Astronomy Library at University of Hawaii, Manoa. At the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Mary Jo Hendricks has assumed the title of Acting Observatory Librarian during the recruitment period.

Debra Bailey has started a two-year term as the librarian member of American Physical Society's Publications Oversight Committee (POC). Debra is the Physics, Math, and Astronomy bibliographer at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Responsibilities of this position include: 1) Attendance at two or three meetings a year 2) Providing advice, and recommendations to the APS with regards to print journals, online access, products and service 3) Providing advice, and recommendations on pricing models, intellectual property rights, surveys, marketing, site licenses, subscription agreements, technical requirements and trends. The next meeting of the POC will be in September 2004. Debra, dbailey@rice.edu, looks forward to your input and ideas regarding the American Physical Society.

Long time PAM member Sandra Kitt says she has had a most excellent year. On July 1st, 2003 Sandra retired from the American Museum of Natural History in New York as the Collection Specialist in astronomy & astrophysics for the Rose Center and Hayden Planetarium. Sandra, you may recall, organized the PAM field trip to the Rose Center during the 2003 SLA Annual Conference. Since leaving after more than 30 years of service, Sandra has been traveling a lot, and is now writing full time. She is author of 26 contemporary novels, and her latest, Southern Comfort, was released in July.

Sandra says her dual careers as Librarian and author were both unplanned. With a Masters in Fine Arts she wanted to illustrate children's' books and hopes that will still happen. She has designed greeting cards for UNICEF and illustrated two books for Isaac Asimov. Sandra says she loved being a librarian and working at AMNH, but now has the time to pursue some of her other interests. The award-winning writer is also a frequent quest speaker at library programs and conferences, and is an Adjunct Instructor in Fiction Writing and Publishing at a college in New Jersey. Sandra remains active in SLA, and is the current Secretary for the PAM Division.
