Message from the Chair

The Annual Conference this year in the biosphere almost felt like another planet but now it's back to reality. Program highlights are/will be posted on the Division website for any of you who were not able to make this exciting event. True to our Division spirit, many PAM members even arose at the ungodly...oops, I mean stimulating...hour of 5 a.m. to see the Transit of Venus.

I would like to extend a great thank-you to Michael Fosmire for all of his hard work and dedication in putting together a fantastic Conference Program in Nashville. My thanks also goes to all of our hard-working committee chairs and members, program moderators, speakers and other Executive Board members. Without volunteers like you, the Division would not be half as successful as it is now.

For those already planning for next year's conference in Toronto, we have an interesting program lined up. The Division is partnering with several other divisions in a program on Open Access looking at the publishers' and faculty/researchers' perspectives. SciTech is lead on this program which follows up on its highly successful program this year in Nashville. We are also partnering with several divisions on a poster session. Chemistry is lead on this. The final partnership has the IT Division as lead in a "Technology Petting Zoo" where several technologies, such as PDAs, tablets and other useful devices, will be showcased. Participants will have the opportunity to try out these devices and also hear from speakers on how these devices can be used effectively in the library. These sessions are in addition to our usual well-attended Roundtables and Updates. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at next year's conference in Toronto.

There are still opportunities on committees in the Division for this year. If you have an interest in getting involved in the Division, especially you new folks, please contact me. I look forward to a groundswell of response and to another successful Division year.
