Astronomy Roundtables

This year the Astronomy Roundtable will be on on Tuesday, June 8th, 2-5 pm. There are two roundtable sessions.

Roundtable Session 1:

  • Sharice Collins & Steve Moss (IOP)
  • Update: The Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (JCAP)
  • Bob Milkey (AAS)
    Developments for the AAS Journals - 2004/5. There are several developments in progress which will affect authors, subscribers, and readers of the AAS Journals. These include the transition of the AJ to a new Editor, the introduction of a new access control portal at the University of Chicago Press, and the related potential for new approaches to pricing for smaller institutions. Pricing for 2005 will be announced, and the AAS experience with RoweCom will also be described.
  • Liz Bryson (CFHT)
    Update on CFHT Oral History project
  • Brenda Corbin (USNO)
    Update on LISA V and discussion of "Transit of Venus"
  • Donna Thompson (ADS)
    Update on ADS services
  • Jeanette Regan will provide an update about Mt. Stromlo Observatory and its library.

Roundtable Session 2:

  • Open discussion
  • Book ordering preferences among librarians
  • Astronomy and architecture
  • Specialized search engines
  • Training users in the best sources
  • Scholarly communication/journal affordability/open access
