MacArthur awarded to arXiv.org creator
Paul Ginsparg, professor of physics and computing and information science at Cornell University, has been named a 2002 fellow of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He will receive a no-strings-attached grant of $500,000 over the next five years. In 1998, he was awarded the PAM Division Award from SLA.

Nano-collections
The Institute of Physics Publishing announced that the journal Nanotechnology is currently available free online at http://www.iop.org/journals/nano until the end of November. Nanotechnology was launched in 1990 as the first journal dedicated to all aspects of nanoscale science and technology. The journal was reintroduced in 2002 under the editorship of Professor Mark Welland (Cambridge University) with a broader scope and a new editorial board. IOP also has a global portal dedicated to the subject at:

Randy Reichardt has created a basic nanoguide for his users at the University of Alberta:

Indexing of arXiv.org preprints
A comment posted by Dana Roth on ELDNET notes that selected preprints from arXiv.org are included in SciFinder Scholar and the DDS Holdings Database (http://www.cas.org/Support/DDS/ddssearch.html), but they are NOT listed in ‘Online-Only Journals’ monitored by CAS. Dana also reports that “CA reports that the preprints are not removed from the system. Thus, when the preprint gets published in a journal there will be two records in the CA file.”

"Pittsburgh Digitizes Decades of Astronomy Data to Aid Researchers"
Molly White posted a story from the Chronicle of Higher Education detailing the new digital archive, called the Parallax Project, which comprises ten volumes of data published by the University of Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Observatory—information dating back to 1910 that remains relevant to researchers today.

"Professional Astronomy without a Librarian"
Author: Heinz Aldernach (Dept. Astronomy, Guanajuato). Rob Atkinson posted a link to http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0209085 which mentions that it is to appear in "Library & Information Services in Astronomy-IV" (LISA IV), eds. B. Corbin, E. Bryson, & M. Digitizing the Mathematical Literature
Michael Jost posted a link to the article "Twenty Centuries of Mathematics: Digitizing and Disseminating the Past Mathematical Literature" by John Ewing. This is a good concept paper that describes the steps that will need to be undertaken to digitize the world’s mathematical literature.
