SLA Committee on Cataloging Liaison Report

SLA's Committee on Cataloging will have its business meeting Monday, June 11, 2001, 1:30-4:15 pm. In addition to discussion of projects and committee work, reports will be presented on various other cataloging groups. Cynthia Whitacre, SLA's representative to the Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access of ALA/ALCTS/CCS will report on that body's work, Juli Beall will report on the Subject Analysis Committee of CCS, Marcia Zeng (Chair of the SLA Committee) will report on the IFLA Section on Classification and Indexing Standing Committee and Working Groups, I will report on the IFLA Section on Cataloguing Standing Committee and Working Groups, and there may be other reports.

The Committee will also participate in the presentation of "Standards Update and the Special Librarian," Tuesday, June 12, 2001, 4:30-6:00 pm. This is a joint program with SLA's Technical Standards Committee. Speakers will include Pat Harris from NISO, Cynthia Whitacre, and Dorothy McGarry. Cynthia will talk about changes that have been approved by the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR and rule revision proposals for changes to the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules. Dorothy will report on some of the work going on within the IFLA Section on Cataloguing and several of its Working Groups, such as changes being made in several International Standard Bibliographic Description publications. Active work is being done in relation both to AACR2R and the ISBDs in areas such as cataloging serials, electronic resources, and cartographic materials.
