Message From the Chair

Onward to Philadelphia as planning for the upcoming conference proceeds at a furious pace. All the PAM planners and moderators want to see you there! Review the schedule in this bulletin, and stay tuned to PAMNet as roundtable agendas are announced. Also, please be aware of the need to RSVP for a few events. Still to come are details for the vendor update, and Emily Poworznek is planning a Big Philosophical Discussion that you won't want to miss. I'm looking forward to the History of Women in Science program on Tuesday afternoon, and several PAM members are presenting a program on the development of science librarians. We have two PAM open houses scheduled at the PAM suite in the Philadelphia Marriott, the SIAM breakfast in the suite, as well as our annual breakfast and business meeting on Tuesday morning. Many opportunities to learn, network, and have fun in Philly, so come on down.

PAM sponsors have responded generously to Jane Holmquist's fundraising requests, so give them your hearty thanks as you visit the exhibit hall and attend the open houses. See the list in this bulletin, and take the time to express your appreciation.

Marlene Cummins is resigning her position as Manual Editor - a post she has filled for ten years. Much of our institutional history and procedural knowledge lives with Marlene, and we are grateful for her leadership in urging us to write it down and get it right. Pam Yorks will be taking over as Manual Editor in June.

It has been a very active spring, with lots of zesty debate on PAMnet to keep us challenged. Brenda Corbin has been planning the PAM program for the Global 2000 conference in England in October. Michael Fosmire's mentoring subcommittee has distributed forms and is matching up members with mentor candidates. The International Relations Committee has been especially busy welcoming its newest member, International Membership Award winner Nancy Gomez. IRC members are working on a proposed presentation for IFLA, and a paper has been accepted for the IAU 24th General Assembly. See Barbara Chu's report for more news.

On a final note, I want to thank all the wonderful people who have made it possible to serve as chair - the officers, committee chairs, committee members, and PAM members. I am especially grateful to Brenda Corbin, past chair; Jane Holmquist, chair-elect; Kris Fowler, treasurer; and Ann Jenson, secretary. This has been a challenging and a rewarding experience, and I appreciate all your contributions, ideas, suggestions, time, work, and energy.
