Liaisons to Other AssociationsThese are occasionally appointed by the chair and should report to the executive once a year. The general purpose of a liaison is to promote the perspective and interests of PAM members to publishers and to communicate to members publishers plans etc. The way liaisons function vary from publisher to publisher. In general they present issues to the membership, canvas for input, and communicate members' thoughts to the vendor in question". An ad hoc Liaisons committee was formed in 1999. The chair of that committee keeps a list of liaisons to be posted with the current staff listings. The committee helps generate more liaisons, set out guidelines, if any, meet and communicate with each other.
Specific PositionsAmerican Astronomical SocietyThis is one of the oldest official liaisons of the Division, having been set up in 1992. Even before this date several astronomy librarians were invited by the AAS to provide input and advice about various activities. The term is 3 years. The duties include attending the AAS Publication Board meeting which usually takes place in the fall of each year. Expenses to attend this meeting are reimbursed by the AAS. INSPEC This liaison was set up in 1997 at the instigation of PAM. Unlike some of the other liaisons, there are no formal parameters or set meetings. Inspec representative(s) and the liaison communicate as issues arise, and meet together at the annual conference. American Physical Society American Mathematical Society The AMS has a library committee and a specific PAM member has been co-chair of that committee for a long time. This process was not, and is not, under the purview of PAM. PAM Manual Editor: Pam Yorks, yorks@u.washington.edu
