Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee comprises 3 members, one each appointed by the Secretary, Treasurer and Past-Chair. The chair of this committee shall have been a member of the previous year's committee. No member of this commitee can be a member of the Executive Board.

Procedures for Nominations and Elections

The Nominating Committee works as early as possible in the year to propose a slate of officers for the upcoming year. The slate consists of a Chair-Elect and either the Secretary or Treasurer, the latter two offices to be filled in alternate years. The Nominating Committee normally puts a call for nominations into the November PAM Bulletin (deadline October 15). The committee develops a list of candidates and determines their willingness to serve. Traditionally, only one nominee is proposed for each office. The report/slate should be submitted to the Executive Board and also to the membership at least four months prior to the Annual Business Meeting; thus the slate should appear in the February issue of the PAM Bulletin. The Nominating Committee then presents the slate at PAM's annual business meeting for approval by the membership.

After the initial announcement of the slate of officers, further nominations may be entered by petition of 10 Division members, accompanied by written acceptance of the nominee, and filed with the Nominating Committee at least 60 days before the annual business meeting. This is unlikely to occur. However, if the slate includes more than one candidate for each office, the Nominating Committee follows these election procedures:

  • Distributes a ballot to each member at least 30 days before the annual business meeting; electronic balloting is acceptable.
  • Tallies votes: the candidate who receives the largest number of votes for any office shall be elected; in the event of a tie, election shall be by majority vote of the members present at the annual business meeting.
  • Notifies all candidates of results.
  • Reports election results to the membership. The report should be included with the notice of the annual meeting and be presented for approval at that meeting.
