Networking Committee
Duties are to provide technological communications channels to facilitate the
sharing of timely information for and amongst PAM division members.
Specific tasks include:
I. Listserver
- The committee will review and implement policies and procedures for
maintaining an effective "PAMnet"
listserv service (the committee membership will include the Listowner);
- The Listowner will be responsible for maintaining a current and adequate
subscription list for the listserver;
- The committee will review requests for postings to the listserver, and will
forward questions to the PAM Executive Board when necessary.
II. Home Page
- The committee will review and implement policies
and procedures for maintaining an effective PAM homepage, providing up to
date, professional PAM related information, and representing the full scope of
PAM activities for both PAM members and interested outsiders;
- The committee will include the Webmaster (who is also the committee chair)
and subject representatives for math, astronomy, physics, computer science, and
Web/Library Tools. Subject representatives are responsible for maintaining current
links to the subject pages, and will post revised pages in HTML to the SLA server.
If there are posting problems, the subject representatives will send their pages to the
Webmaster to post (see #7);
- Non-subject-specific information, either PAM business or basic information
("vanilla"), will be sent to the Webmaster by appropriate PAM members;
- The Webmaster will make necessary FTP changes and do basic maintenance of
the site;
- The Webmaster will stay in communication with the SLA webmaster to ensure
continuity with other Divisions and Chapters;
- The Bulletin Editor(s) and Practices Manual Editor will work
in close cooperation with the Webmaster to assure an integration of relevant information.
III. Web Log (aka "Blog")
- The Committee will review and implement policies and procedures
for maintaining an effective "PAMblog" web log reporting tool for use at the Annual and
Winter Meetings (the Committee membership will include the Blog owner);
- The Blog owner and Networking Committee Chair will be responsible for establishing
and maintaining an appropriate blog presence, including appropriate disclaimers and
links to PAMweb and SLA, and for advertising that presence to the PAM membership at
large;
- Prior to the Meetings, the membership will be canvassed for volunteers to be
"primary posters" for each PAM session. All PAM members are encouraged to post replies;
- The Blog owner and Networking Committee Chair will be responsible for removing any
"spam" postings, or other inappropriate contributions to the blog, by regularly scanning
postings during the Meetings and restricting posting access during other times of the
year.
