Archivist

PAM is required to maintain archives and is expected to treat its archival material with the highest level of professional competence. If at some point the Division should choose not to maintain its own archives, it would then contribute material to the Association archives. Since Divisions are part of the Special Libraries Association, all archives are, ultimately, the property of the Association.

PAM's archives are located at University of Michigan Shapiro Science Library, in accordance with the guideline that they should be located in a place easily accessible to Division officers or members, not in a private home or office. A retention agreement is in process; it must be signed by a responsible representative of that institution and approved by the Association.

Duties:

  • To maintain non-current documents, correspondence and publications of the Division.
  • To solicit archival materials from PAM officers, committee chairs and holders of appointed positions.
  • To sort, file and weed collections, retaining only materials of genuine historical importance.
  • To prepare a report for each Board meeting.
  • To retrieve information and/or make files accessible to the Executive Board.
  • To familiarize himself/herself with the Practices for Division Archives to understand more specific requirements for the housing of archives, archivist, retention schedules, transfer of materials to archivist, organization of archives, filing of archives. Any questions should be directed to the Director, Information Center, at the Association office.
