This session begins with a discussion of trends in electronic publishing, including use and economics of electronic publications, and continues with collection development, site license negotiation, and what funders need to know for resource allocation decisions. The second part deals with specific library data collection and measurement. Examples will show how special libraries contribute to value and how decisions can be made in light of their effect on value. Presenters Tenopir and King have published well over 100 publications each and have recently co-authored "Towards Electronic Journals: Realities for Scientists, Librarians, and Publishers."

Professor Gregory Youngen has created a database of descriptions and evaluations of crystallographic datasets that are available in either electronic or print formats. This includes an evaluation of the scope and coverage of the print volumes and a determination of whether or not the data is available electronically, and if so, for which databases. This talk will describe the process of putting together the database and the evolution of crystallographic information and will highlight some of the more innovative electronic resources available to librarians and crystallographers.
