   Secrets of the Deep: Mining Government Information from the Invisible Web

   Saturday, June 8, 2002, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

   Cost: $199 SLA Members; $249 Non-Members. This is a Continuing Education Course.

Finding information from the world's largest printing entity has always been a challenge but with so much now residing in the "deep" or "invisible" web it is even more of a challenge. This class will provide on overview of what the "deep" or "invisible" web is and explore more specifically how to access it and discover what is in the many government databases. Special emphasis will be on the publicly available military websites and databases. This workshop will cover specialized search engines, directories and gateways to help the searcher become more familiar with the best access points for finding the "gold" in the free government databases. The focus will include specialized search tools such as: Google, Uncle Sam, Firstgov, Searchmil.com, Searchgov.com, the Army's Center for Lessons Learned Military Domains Search Engine, Air War College Gateway to Internet Resources, Air War College Military Quick Portal, GPO Access and more. Course attendees will receive a CD ROM with essential course content.

Relax and spend the day at beautiful Catalina Island before heading home and applying all you've learned at the conference. Whether you like sand in your shoes, shopping around, or just soaking upt he sun, Catalina Island is a favorite relaxation destination for Los Angelenos, both famous and unknown.
