MLD, a division of the Special Libraries Association, brings together members from all the U.S. military services, the Canadian Combined Armed Forces, other national military services, other DoD agencies, contractors and vendors, and anyone with an interest in military librarianship.  Our goal is to promote the profession both within our organizations and to the world at large and also to assist our members to develop the core competencies required in this new age of knowledge management.  We accomplish this through program sponsorship at the annual SLA meetings, sponsorship of our own annual Division meeting, the Military Libraries Workshop (MLW), networking, committee participation, and publication of our newsletter, The Military Librarian.

redball.gif (311 bytes) - Picture of a red ball What is MLW?

The Military Libraries Workshop is an annual professional event of the Military Libraries Division.  It began in 1957 at Air University, and every year since then has been hosted by a military installation.  Recent ones have been at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Ft Leavenworth, KS, Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, and the Defense Technical Information Center in Fort Belvoir, VA.

MLD members receive a discount on Workshop registration, but it is open to all who have an interest in the military library community.  The Workshop features nationally-known keynoters as well as high-quality programs which deal with issues pertinent to the military library community.   This is the place to meet and network with your colleagues from all the services, to become involved by giving presentations, working on committees, or on other activities that help you to grow professionally in a supportive environment.
