The terrible tsunami disaster damaged library buildings, collections, furniture, and mobile libraries. Many librarians died or lost loved ones; those alive are depressed. The National Library is making efforts to rebuild the libraries and serve the public, by preserving the collection; using mobile libraries so that public, students and school children can be served; and coordinating with foreign and domestic institutions to reconstruct library, documentation and information centers.
