SLA Legal Division Conference Travel Grants

The SLA Legal Division offers three or four professional travel grant awards for Legal Division members to attend the SLA annual conference.

Types of Grants

● U.S. law librarian grants for

• a) one veteran member (membership of 12 months or longer) US$1,500

• b) one new member (membership less than 12 months) US$1,500

● A vendor-funded grant for one academic law librarian US$1,500

● Non-U.S. law librarian grant US$3,000

Reimbursable Expenses (with receipts)

• Full conference registration

• Transportation costs, including air/rail/bus and ground transportation to and from the hotel

• Cost of a standard room and taxes at conference hotel rates

Non-reimbursable Expenses

• Meals

• Continuing education courses, other ticketed events and tours

Recipients’ Obligation

Grant recipients are expected to volunteer to serve the Division. Volunteer opportunities include serving as a committee chair or a member of a committee, running for the Division’s Board of Directors and volunteering at the annual conference. Recipients are required to write a brief report of their conference experience for the Legal Division Quarterly.

Application Schedule

The Call for Applications is sent to the Division listserv and posted on the website in February for the upcoming conference in June.  The deadline for applications is in March, with the winners chosen before the close of early-bird SLA conference registration.
