DITE CE: Internet Taxonomies and MetaData

Instructors: Heather Hlava, Margie Hlava

Sponsor: Access Innovations, Basch Subscriptions

Putting content on the Internet or your intranet with a flexible, effective, and easy-to-use interface requires a strong metadata set and taxonomy. Metadata and taxonomies are two major components that allow for quick, easy navigation and excellent search results. When they are linked to well-formed data, create the basis of successful sites. Metadata has evolved quickly over the last three years.--ITE

Librarian's Role in the High Technology Workplace

Moderator: Mala Sistla, SK CPG, Inc.

Speaker: Morris Blatt, On Trac Solutions

Sponsor: LexisNexis Information Services

In today's increasingly fast-paced, high-technology world, the information professional's job function is ever changing. Project deadlines are becoming shorter, while the number of data sources are constantly increasing, causing data gathering, competitive intelligence, and strategic planning professionals as well as senior management to function in a " time compression " environment. That business atmosphere may not allow information professionals sufficient time to develop internal and external networking relationships, may cause overlaps with other organizations in obtaining data, and may cause key client groups to rely on their resource centers (information professionals) for quickly filtered information before making their decisions. This session will identify these issues and make recommendations to resolve them while improving internal communications and interactions with other organizations. --ITE, ERMD
