Christina Dunn, Director, U.S. Department of Education National Library of Education
Speaker: The Once and Future ERIC
In 2003 Christina Dunn was named director of the U.S. Department of Education's National Library of Education (NLE) which includes the ERIC Program. Prior to taking that position, she served as director of the NLE's Technical Services and Collections Division. While she joined the NLE staff in 1997, she has been with the Department since 1988, serving first as associate to the director of the Library Programs Office which managed federal funds for libraries under the Library Services and Construction Act and Title II of the Higher Education Act; and then as director of discretionary programs in that office, managing funding programs for academic and research libraries, library education and research, library services to Indian Tribes and adult literacy.
Prior to her career in the Department, she served as assistant director of the Library Development Branch, Virginia State Library and Archives from 1984 to 1988 and as supervisor for School Libraries and Information Technology, Virginia Department of Education from 1974 to 1984. She also was an adjunct instructor in library science at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She has a Masters in Library Science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a Post-Masters Certificate in Library Science from the Catholic University of America.
Anne M. Fields, Information Services & Collection Manager, Education, Ohio State University

Anne is Information Services Librarian and Collection Manager for Education at Ohio State University. She received her A.B. from Mount Holyoke College, M.A.L.S. from the University of Iowa, and M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Certified in several states to teach secondary school English, she worked initially as a school library media specialist. Since that early experience, she also has worked in community college, four-year college, and research university libraries. ACRL's Institute for Information Literacy Immersion Program in 2000 galvanized her interest in information literacy, particularly with regard to questions of gender differences and women's need for and use of information.
Richard L. Huffine, National Program Manager, Office of Environmental Info EPA National Library Network
Speaker: The Once and Future ERIC
Richard is the National Program Manager for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Library Network. He coordinates the activities of 26 libraries located across the United States and is also the Federal Manager of the EPA Headquarters Library here in Washington, DC.
He received his Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1995, through a distance education program while residing in Asheville, North Carolina. He has held positions in academic and public libraries and, while in library school, managed a retail bookstore.
During his tenure as National Program Manager, the EPA has developed a "desktop" virtual library serving all 18,000 Agency employees and continues a 35 year tradition of coordinating library services across the diversity of EPA's programs and activities. In addition to the Library Network, Richard continues his active participation in the EPA's "Information Access Team" helping coordinate the organization of EPA's Web site.
The U.S. EPA is currently undergoing a review of its library services and is trying to make the business case for libraries while at the same time retooling to meet the current and future needs of our users.
Patricia O'Brien Libutti, Ph.D., Alexander Library, Rutgers University Libraries

Patricia is the Social Sciences/Education Librarian for Rutgers University Libraries at New Brunswick. She chaired the Education and Behavioral Sciences Section, Association of Research and College Libraries, 1996, and is now Chair, SLA-DEDU.
Libutti held positions as a Cybrarian, Librarian and as an Educator, teaching courses in K-12, Gifted Education, Art, and Human Relations. Higher education experience included teaching Library Science, Rutgers University, and Educational Technology, Fordham University. Her publications and presentations over the last decade focus on instructional roles of librarians in technology-rich scenarios. As a Cybrarian with ThinkQuest she developed a virtual library of educational web sites prepared by students, prepared instructional materials on intellectual property and web production, and edited the e-news for ThinkQuest (http://www.thinkquest.com).
She has edited, with Bonnie Gratch-Lindauer, Casebook (1995), and Librarians as Learners, Librarians as Teachers: The Diffusion of Internet Expertise in Academic Libraries (1999), and Digital Resources and Librarians: Case Studies in Innovation, Invention, and Implementation (2004).All publications are with ALA/ACRL. Presently, Libutti is developing WorldED: A Database on Educational Sites across Different Countries (http://www.scc.rutgers.edu/digital-projects/world_ed/).
Karen McQuillen, Information Specialist, ETS

Karen is an Information Specialist at Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey. Karen received her M.L.S. from Rutgers University and her BA in English and Psychology from Trenton State College. She has served as chair of the Education Division and President of the Princeton-Trenton Chapter of Special Libraries Association She has presented at the Special Libraries Association annual conference.
Jacqueline Snider, Manager, ACT Library, ACT

Jacqueline manages the library at ACT, a testing company in Iowa City, Iowa. Since graduating with a M.L.S. from the University of Toronto, Jacqueline has worked in special libraries in Toronto, Chicago, and Iowa City. She recently published a collection development article on test preparation materials for Library Journal.
Jacqueline is a former chair of the Education Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), and is currently involved in forming an Iowa Chapter.
Eileen Stec, Instruction and Outreach Librarian, Douglass Library, Douglass Library, Rutgers University Libraries

Eileen is the Instruction and Outreach Librarian at Rutgers University, Mabel Smith Douglass Library where she coordinates all information literacy instruction. She designs both live and online multimedia instruction and tutorials. Before entering the library field, she spent more than a dozen years practicing as a psychiatric social worker. That experience informs her teaching and evaluation activities. Eileen reports that she is slowly recovering from her severe allergy to statistical analysis.
Carole Sund, Web Product Editor, National Education Association
Moderator: The Once and Future ERIC
Carole is an Information Specialist at the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, DC, where she created the NEA Information Service, conducting research and ready reference for NEA staff and state and local affiliates. She also developed an automated clearinghouse of information on ultra-conservative associations and groups, and worked with the groups that have created NEA's web site and Intranet. She currently creates a daily e-letter news alert for NEA's External Partnerships and Advocacy team and continues her intranet work.
She began her career in public libraries at the Langley Adams Library in Groveland, MA, and as a department head at the Haverhill Public Library in Haverhill, MA. Before joining the NEA Headquarters staff in Washington she managed the Resource Center for the Northeast Regional Laboratory, in Andover, MA, an educational research and technical assistance contract funded by the U. S. Department of Education.
A graduate of the College of William and Mary, with a B.A. in Secondary Education and German, she earned a Masters in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston. Carole is a past Chair of in the SLA Education Division.
Roberta L. Tipton, Business Librarian & Instructional Coordinator, Rutgers University Libraries, Dana Library, Newark, NJ

Robertta is senior business librarian, library instruction coordinator and public administration bibliographer at the john Cotton Dana Library, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.She has worked in government, medical, corporate, and academic libraries for more than 25 years. She has also been a partner in an audio business since 1987. Her 1990 presentation at National Online, "U.S. Users of Foreign Company Information: Patterns of Use and Gaps in Knowledge" won a New Jersey Library Association research award. She is a graduate of the ACRL Institute of Information Literacy immersion program and is currently a member of the International Coach Federation.
Janet Williams, ETS

Janet is Director, Library Services, Education Testing Services, Division of Corporate Communications and Library Services. Prior to coming to ETS in 1976, she was a freelance technical editor and staff writer for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. She has published various articles; the most recent being "Creativity in Assessment of Library Instruction," Reference Services Review 28:4, 2000. She was also a panel memer at the 2002 ALA Midwinter Meeting in New Orleans speaking on "Fairness in Testing." Williams has been active in SLA as Chair of the Education Division and President of the Princeton-Trenton Chapter, as well as President of the Central Jersey Library Cooperative Board. |
