M E M B E R U P D A T ENews from SLA-WI membersby Megan Barkelar, Membership Chair
Your fellow WI SLA chapter members have been up to some fabulous things these past few months. Congratulations to the following people for their great accomplishments. The Reference/Research staff at the International Foundation has just produced the first annual Employee Benefits Survey: U.S. and Canada 2007. The Project Leader is Julie Stich, CEBS. Julie Miller worked as the Technical Coordinator, and Subject Experts are Kelli Kolsrud, CEBS and Pat Krajnak, CEBS. Jennifer R Borrell, Associate Information Scientist at Abbott Laboratories, gave a case study at the Taxonomy Boot Camp conference Nov. 8-9. The topic was: From Taxonomy to Ontology: Laying the Groundwork to Improve User Productivity. Bev Butula, Reference Librarian at Davis & Kuelthau in Milwaukee, has been keeping herself busy. She was published in the October 2007 edition of the Wisconsin Lawyer, Online Access to Circuit Court Dockets. She also has presented two seminars, one to the Greater Milwaukee Association of Legal Professionals (legal research tips) and one to the Milwaukee Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (Perhaps Google Really Does Rule the World). Wisconsin Law Journal honored five of our colleagues at their second annual Unsung Heroes Award luncheon held last month at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee. Beverly Butula of Davis & Kuelthau won this year's award. The other distinguished nominees in the law library staff category included Jo Anne Meyer of von Briesen & Roper, Tony Chan of Quarles & Brady, Debbie Boyden of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, and Barbara Dichter of O'Neil, Cannon, & Hollman. Congrats to our SLA members! SLA headquarters has been going through software changes as well as personal upheaval, which has affected their ability to let the membership chairs know of new members. Because of that, I would like to welcome all new members to the Wisconsin Chapter of SLA as well as anyone who has renewed their membership in the past year. If you haven't already, please view the Wisconsin Chapter's website. Peruse the site to find information on the next monthly meeting, joining the discussion list and to view SLANT. I hope to see you at the next meeting!
