President's Message
by Claudette
Cloutier.
Fall is one of my favourite times of the year. There's a sense
of renewal and rejuvenation in the air as you go through your garden
harvesting the fruits of your summer labour, children return to
school and business picks up in a lot of industries.
I always have great plans as fall rolls around... This will be
the year that I organize all my notes from every conference and
workshop I have attended since I became a librarian (about 9 years
worth)... Maybe I'll finally have a chance to read those texts that
have been sitting on my floor (I think they have been there for
at least 3 years). ... Well I always start with ambitious plans!
This year though there is cause to celebrate the sense of renewal
and rejuvenation. As I'm sure you will read in a number of places,
SLA's annual recruitment drive is underway, SLA Keyword...Recruit.
There are two ways for our members to participate. Just take a few
minutes to personalize and send a pre-worded email from SLA's recruitment
site (www.sla.org/Keywordrecruitemail)
or send your own email including an SLA application (http://www.sla.org/KeywordApply)
to as many prospective members you want to recruit. Prizes will
be awarded to those chapters and divisions that recruit the most
new members. The stronger we are as an association, the louder the
voice.
This is a great way to meet new and prospective members and to
share with them a little something about the association. If you
have any other suggestions for recruitment, please let us know.
