Editorial

By Kate Bird Bulletin Editor

The theme for the 2001 SLA conference in San Antonio is An Information Odyssey: Seizing the Competitive Edge. Our profession presents us with a never-ending challenge to keep abreast of new information and technology, much as we would like the trajectory of learning to slow down a little once in a while! The SLA press release states that "to stay ahead of the curve, we must take on every opportunity to learn, to share and to grow".

At the moment, my odyssey is taking me in new directions which will require my full attention. It is for this reason that I am handing the position of Bulletin Editor into the capable hands of Susannah Tredwell. Susannah brings to Wired West a wealth of experience with web page development and fresh energy and ideas.

It has been a rewarding combination of learning, sharing and growing for me as Bulletin Editor of Wired West and as a member of the WCC Board and the Strategic Planning Committee. The people with whom I have had the pleasure to work in the past year have made it both interesting and fun.

I would especially like to thank WCC President (and my boss!) Debbie Millward for her encouragement and support. Many thanks also to President-Elect (and former Bulletin Editor) Patricia Cia for her patient training and ongoing assistance. Thanks to Communications Director Lynne Foster for her continued support and to Archives Chair Joleen Wright, who willingly took over some Bulletin Editor tasks. I would also like to thank Barbara Holder, always willing to submit articles and photos to Wired West and always first to get them in!

Here's to learning, sharing and growing.

Happy spring to all!
