By Patricia Cia
Welcome to the Spring issue of Wired West. This issue's theme is based on the theme for the upcoming SLA 90th Annual Conference: Knowledge Leaders for the New Millenium. The four tracks for the conference are:
- Evolving roles: where we are going
- Knowledge management: what we do
- Leadership: who we are
- Practitioner's toolkit: the nuts and bolts
Initially, I envisioned articles which would fall into a specific "track". However, when putting this issue together, I realized that what we do, who we are, how we do it, and where we go are integrated. I found it difficult at times to place an article into any on category. Looking through the Preliminary Conference Program, I often saw more than one icon assigned to a session. So, although not obviously apparant, we have an issue which covers all aspects of the conference, including the exhibits and networking opportunities.
Goodbye & Thanks for the Experience
My web journal publishing began with Issue
Three (aptly themed Change as Opportunity) ... a transitional
issue which then became Wired West. Although the look has changed over
the past two years (I hope for the better), the quality and variety of
articles has maintained its high quality. Without the content and contributions
from our members, we would not have received the recognition and appreciation
from the rest of the SLA community.
Thank you to all our contributers - SLA WCC Members & Guests:
Joan Andrews, Joe Boyd, Denise Bonin, Kathy Bryce, Pat Cavill, Jason Colantonio, Franki Elliott, Lynne Foster, Shonna Froebel, Steve Gilheany, André Gionet, Raye Graham, Donna Hanson, Arlene Higgs, Barbara Holder, Charlene Kramer, Larry Krumenaker, Val Lawton, Helgi Leesment, Nigel Long, Naomi Lloyd, Cathy McBratney, Bobbie Merilees, Jane Meyer, Norma Miller, Debbie Millward, Lance Nordstrom, Barbara Patterson, Juanita Richardson, Lynda Roberts, Erika Scott, John Sinclair, Xenia Stanford, Rhys M.G. Various discussion lists (especially SOLOLIB-L) have also sparked ideas and leads to potential contributors.
I would particularly like to thank Stephen Abram who allowed us to publish his inspirational and often humorous "Adventures in Cancer" during 1998.
Thank you also to the SLA WCC Executive who have contributed articles, encouragement and ideas. I would like to particularly thank Rita Penco and Carol Williams who have encouraged and supported me throughout.
You will have a new web journal editor for the next issue. I will be there to offer as much encouragement and assistance as the editor wants. I look forward to fresh ideas and more great content.
During 1999/2000, I will continue as the Communications Chair / Web Administrator... and hope to incorporate some of the newer web design advances.
Thank you!
