By Carol Williams, SLA/WCC President 1997/98 was an eventful year for the Special Libraries Association/Western Canada Chapter. Our designation as a virtual chapter was most clearly manifested through the development of a content-rich, up-to-date web page, new WCC logo and web journal. Programs were numerous, high in quality and in attendance, from Manitoba through to British Columbia. Despite our geographical diversity, the Chapter has worked as a unit, thanks to the listserv, web page, web journal, Board meetings by conference call, and joint programs. The Annual General Meeting was a wonderful culmination for the year featuring attendance of directors from several provinces, professional Powerpoint presentations by Officers and Chairs, and an inspirational talk by Stephen Abram who reminded us of the importance and benefits of membership in the Special Libraries Association. It's time to look ahead to 1998/99. The Member Needs Survey has told us what the members want. The Chapter's newly adopted Strategic Plan provides us with a framework for programs and services. With these two documents as management tools, the WCC Board is already planning programs and updating services. Contact the Director in your region (link to Board list) if you have ideas, want to volunteer, or are interested in proposed plans. This is an exciting time to be an information professional and SLA/WCC hopes to capture that mood in 1998/99 for its members and spread the enthusiasm to students and new graduates. © All articles are copyright by authors Last updated: 31 July 1998 URL: www.sla.org/chapter/cwcn/wwest/v1n4/cwmessg.htm |
