PRESENTATION

Lee will present an update of his research paper "Digital Library Service Models and NODAL."  From the introduction:  "Digital libraries are moving into a new phase of development. Many of the inherent problems of collection digitization, distribution, rights management and the changing of mindsets to recognize the inherent advantages of digital versus paper collections have been achieved. In that context, there is now an increased interest in exploring new service models and means of enhancing digital libraries for their patrons that would be impossible to achieve with physical collections. Unfortunately, many of these efforts are being pursued quite separately from each other and with more of a focus on the new technology than on the ways these systems interact with their users’ needs and tasks."

SPEAKER

Lee Iverson is Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UBC, where he is a member of the Computer and Software Engineering Group. His main areas of research cover computer vision, computer graphics, geographical visualization, GIS systems, networked information systems, and systems for human-centered collaboration, with the general theme of making systems more intelligent and better able to interact with their users. Lee wants to build systems that allow people to work together more effectively.
