SLA WCC Annual General Meeting, 2005

Annual General Meeting

The AGM of the Western Canada Chapter of SLA will be held by web/teleconference, with "live" meetings in Calgary and Vancouver. All SLA WCC members are strongly encouraged to attend this important business meeting. Please save the date on your calendar and plan to attend either in person or virtually.

  • The official date is Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 3 p.m. (Pacific Time)
  • Primary meeting site: Teck Cominco, 7th floor boardroom, 200 Burrard Street, Vancouver
  • Calgary: A secondary meeting site will also be provided in Calgary. Details will be announced shortly by the Calgary Director.
  • All WCC members also have the option of attending the AGM by toll-free web/teleconference (to control costs, Vancouver and Calgary members are asked to attend the meeting in person).
  • There is no charge to attend the AGM either in person or by web/teleconference.

Post-AGM program: Always fresh : fast content for your users : RSS and potential applications

We are delighted to welcome back Darlene Fichter of the University of Saskatchewan Library as our guest speaker for the post-AGM program. A very popular and entertaining speaker, Darlene will give us an introduction to RSS (rich site summary/RDF site summary/really simple syndication). Darlene will show how information professionals can offer new services and build applications with RSS feeds.

  • The post-AGM program will start at 4 p.m. PT (5 p.m. MT, etc.) and run for about 45 minutes.
  • There is no charge for SLA WCC members to attend this post-AGM program on RSS (in person or by web/teleconference).

Technical requirements

To participate by web/teleconference, you will need to have access to a computer with internet access AND to a telephone.

Attendees must use Microsoft Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP or 2003 with a base configuration of:

  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, Mozilla FireFox 0.8 or higher, Mozilla 1.7 or higher, or Netscape 7 or higher
  • Macromedia Flash version 5.0 or higher
  • 233 Mhz processor
  • 56K Internet connection minimum (high speed Internet connection recommended)

How to Register

Pre-registration is required; closing date for registration: May 16, 2005

For members, to attend the AGM and post-AGM program in person in Vancouver:

  • In the subject line: AGM VANCOUVER LIVE - Member
  • In the body of the message, include your name and contact information (address, telephone, fax, email)
  • Cost: SLA WCC members: No charge

For non-members, to attend the post-AGM program (and AGM) in person in Vancouver:

  • Send an email to Keith.Low@teckcominco.com
  • In the subject line: AGM VANCOUVER LIVE - Non-member
  • In the body of the message, include your name and contact information (address, telephone, fax, email)
  • Cost: Non-members: $15 for non-members to attend post-AGM program; payment at the door (cash or cheque made out to SLA WCC)

For members, to attend the AGM and post-AGM program by web/teleconference

  • In the body of the message, include your name and contact information (address, telephone, fax, email)
  • Cost: SLA WCC members: No charge

For non-members, to attend the AGM and post-AGM program by web/teleconference

  • Cost: Non-members: $30 for non-members to attend the post-AGM program virtually (cheque made out to SLA WCC, mailed to Corporate Library, Teck Cominco, 200 Burrard St., Vancouver, B.C. V6C 3L9)
