VASLA -- Virginia Chapter of the Special Libraries Association

Established in 1966, the Virginia Chapter of the Special Libraries Association is one of 58 regional chapters worldwide. We have a diverse membership, with Librarians and Information Professionals employed in many types of specialized libraries and organizations including law, business, university, school, medical, newspaper, museum, and military.

Membership benefits include:

  • Networking opportunities with over 180 chapter members.
  • Meetings/seminars on current topics in special librarianship.
  • Access to the discussion list, the chapter's blog, which includes information on chapter programs and activities, and the Facebook fan page for Facebook members.

The chapter's archives are housed at the Library of Virginia (1966-1995) and at the Virginia Historical Society (1995-present).

President's Message

Hello all,

As incoming president to VASLA I am excited for the new year and want to start by building a successful chapter that fits what you want from SLA. Many of you have taken the first step with the survey sent out by President-Elect Heather Enderle a couple of weeks ago. We will be using the survey to determine programs for the year. I also strongly encourage you to take advantage of networking opportunities through the dine-in's and programs and the SLA Conference in New Orleans. One of the greatest strength's of SLA as an organization is the diverse talents each of us bring to our chapter. Thanks and I look forward to working with each of you in 2010.
