Responsible for processing incoming research/reference requests and conducts complete and thorough research, using library resources and informational tools. Participates in ready referencing tasks which include working the reference desk, and consulting with library users. Able to produce client billable research.
Additional responsibilities include processing and distributing daily mail received in the library's technical services area. File new materials, replace loose-leaf supplements and maintain the library cataloging database. File and shelve incoming periodicals, books, articles and other publications according to established library procedures. Responsible for maintaining the appearance of the library collection.
A Masters degree in Library/Information Science from an accredited library school is preferred or the equivalent plus a minimum two years experience in a law firm or corporate law library. Thorough knowledge of print and online legal and non-legal sources required, including strong Westlaw, and LexisNexis skills. In addition, candidate should possess fundamental knowledge of library materials, related to the practice of law and standard library.

Job Description:
The University of Texas at San Antonio Library seeks to hire a forward-thinking, service-oriented individual as our Science Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Electronic Information & Reference Services, this librarian will participate in new and on-going service-based projects involving innovative web-based technologies to enhance reference services, information literacy instruction, collection development and outreach activities. This individual will also provide reference assistance, teach instruction classes and serve as the subject specialist for academic and research programs in biology, chemistry and the other science disciplines as assigned. This position may supervise reference assistants. The normal work schedule is Monday thru Friday with scheduled evening and weekend hours. Travel between campuses will be required.
The UTSA Library is growing rapidly and supports a Reference department which is fast-paced, student-centered and meets student needs both traditionally and through newer virtual methods.
Required Qualifications:
- An ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library or Information Science to be obtained by date of hire.
- This position requires at least one of the following:
- professional library reference experience.
- at least one year of pre-professional library experience.
- a successful practicum in a library reference environment.
- at least one year of teaching experience.
- Other required qualifications include:
- At least 18 hours of coursework from an institution of higher education in biology and/or chemistry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of print and online reference sources and databases.
- Knowledge of web-based technologies for service and resource delivery.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- A strong service orientation and the ability to work collegially and productively with diverse groups.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and environments.
- Working knowledge of PC-based applications and experience working with an integrated library system.
Preferred Qualifications:
Library reference experience at an academic institution; experience with the development and presentation of information literacy instruction. Collection development experience in the sciences.

This position plans, organizes and manages the activities and operation of the Bryan + College Station Public Library System that includes the Bryan Public Library, the College Station Larry J. Ringer Public Library and the Carnegie Center of Brazos Valley History; performs professional library services in connection with the selection, purchase, classification and cataloging of library materials; advises and informs the Bryan+College Station Library Board and the City Managers’ Offices of both Bryan and College Station regarding the maintenance and improvement of the municipal library system; assures the continuous operations of the library system at a consistently high level of professionalism within approved budget appropriations.
Minimum Requirements:
