The Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians on Film

Register online for this event - Registration closes May 20, 2004

Speaker: Ann M. Seidl
Principal, Information Managed

Ann M. Seidl (MLIS, University of Denver) is principal of a library consulting business called Information, Managed, providing library research, GIS analysis, presentational speaking, training and staff development. From 1997 to 1999, Seidl served as Associate Director of the Library Research Service at the Colorado State Library in Denver, where she collected, analyzed and published public library statistics for Colorado and several other US states.

The Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians on Film is a unique presentation of film clips, humor and critical analysis of our professional image as librarians. American movies feature hundreds of examples of librarians and libraries on screen - some positive, some negative, some laughable and some deadly serious. Themes such as censorship and intellectual freedom, children and librarians, pay equity and funding issues, medical librarianship, and the value of reading appear in the most surprising ways in the cinema, and provide ample opportunity for reflection and discussion.
