The SF Bay Region Chapter of the Special Libraries Association and BayNet Present

Virtual Reference -- The 24/7 Answer to Global Information Needs?

Does your organization have information needs:

When your library is closed?
When your users are not in the building?
When your users need quick, timely personal assistance?
Are you providing an email-based service but looking for the next big thing to "bring it up a notch?"

Join Mary Beth Train, Coordinator of the QandA Cafe for the Golden Gateway Library Network and Christina Peterson, SJSU's Health Professions and Distance Learning Librarian, as they explain and demonstrate how they provide virtual reference around the clock. They will discuss implementing and marketing a virtual reference service, setting policies and standards, staffing and training needs, integrating virtual services with existing electronic reference service models, and evaluating transcripts, statistics and patron feedback. They will also demonstrate the use of virtual reference as an instructional tool for both individuals and groups. Web-based software with impressive interactive capabilities will be showcased.
