It is with great pleasure that we recognize Debbie Hunt for her commitment, leadership and many activities which support our profession.
Have you ever asked Deb, "What are you doing these days?"
Her professional schedule is packed with her work at the Exploratorium, her own consulting firm, Information Edge, her teaching at UC Berkeley, Diablo Valley College and for Infopeople, her efforts for our SLA chapter as well as other professional associations.
This energy runs over to her personal life, too. She is mother of two almost-grown children and plays weekly on a tennis team.
It has been said that if you want something done, ask a busy person. To my mind, that suits Deb perfectly.
Debbie has been a member of the SF Bay Region chapter since 1982. She is responsible for getting our discussion list up and running in 1999 and has acted as its moderator since. She has been Chair of the Programs, Professional Development and Networking Committees, and has served on many others.
She is also very active with the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP), serving as Director at large and annual Conference Chair (2001) and has been local BayNet president and active member for many years.
Debbie always promotes the profession and the many benefits of association membership.
Debbie is also active as an instructor. Many of us have attended her presentations at Internet Librarian and other conferences. Debbie presents on internet and other tech trends and tools.
I’ve known Debbie since the early 90’s, when I became active in the SF Chapter and the informal Architectural and Engineering librarians group. We had lots of discussion about the new tool, the Internet, then only Unix driven..Those early days were heady with excitement and possibility. Debbie was always in the early wave of adopters and she readily shared her knowledge and experience with her colleagues. She continues to do that to this day.
Again, it is our pleasure to honor Debbie with this award. Congratulations to a most deserving colleague. We really appreciate your efforts and contributions.
One of the delightful rewards of serving as Chapter President is the opportunity, as Past-President, to chair the Chapter Professional Achievement Awards Committee. It's been my pleasure to work with such an outstanding group of colleagues.
