INTRODUCTIONThe New Jersey Chapter of the American Society for Information Science (NJ/ASIS&T) proudly announces Professor Christine L. Borgman as the recipient of its seventeenth annual Distinguished Lectureship Award. The New Jersey Chapter established this award in 1985 to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of information science. Due to the stature of the awardees, this award has become internationally known over the past decades. You are cordially invited to attend the events surrounding the presentation of this year's award. Additional InformationBiographyChristine L. Borgman holds the Presidential Chair in Information Studies at UCLA. She is a Professor in the Department of Information Studies and in the Communication Studies Program at UCLA. From 1996-2002 she was also Visiting Professor in the Department of Information Science at Loughborough University in England. She served as Chair of the Department of Library and Information Science (since renamed Department of Information Studies) from 1995 to 1997. Prof. Borgman’s teaching and research interests include digital libraries, human-computer interaction, information-seeking behavior, learning in science, scholarly communication, electronic publishing, bibliometrics, and information technology policy. She is currently a co-principal investigator for the Center for Embedded Networked Systems (CENS) and for the Alexandria Digital Earth Prototype (ADEPT) project. She was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Economic Sciences and at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary, and a Scholar-in-Residence at the Rockefeller Foundation Study and Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy. After toll booths bear to the right; follow signs for "Route 18 North - New Brunswick." Proceed along Route 18 North past exit for "Route 27" and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University"(approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike). At the top of the exit ramp bear right onto George Street. Follow George Street to the end, then follow signs for Huntington Street. Proceed onto Huntington Street. (You will know you are on Huntington Street when you see the Rutgers Police Department on the right hand side). Go to first light at the intersection of Huntington Street and College Avenue. From Garden State Parkway: Southbound - Coming from northern New Jersey: Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south. Turn off at Exit 9. After approximately 24 miles you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike and continue on Route 18 North. Proceed along Route 18 North past exit for "Route 27" and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University" (approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike).At the top of the exit ramp, bear right onto George Street. Turn right at River Road traffic light onto Route 18 and cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. Stay in the right lane and take the first exit which is marked "George Street - Rutgers University, New Brunswick, Route 27." At the traffic light at the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto Huntington Street, then turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. The library is on the left-hand side of the street. DIRECTIONS to Evening ProgramDirections to Trayes Hall, Douglass College Student Center From the New Jersey Turnpike (north or south): Take Exit 9 to Route 18 North. Take the first exit for George Street (Cook/Douglass Campus) which is after the traffic light at Paulus Boulevard. Follow George Street to the second traffic light. Turn left on Nichol Avenue. At Co-op Bookstore, turn left on Lipman Drive. Immediately turn left again into the College Center parking lot. From Garden State Parkway: Southbound - Coming from northern New Jersey: Take Exit 129 to NJ Turnpike South to Exit 9. Follow New Jersey Turnpike directions from this point. From Garden State Parkway: Northbound - Coming from southern New Jersey: Take Exit 105 to Route 18 North. Follow NJ Turnpike directions from this point.
