Minutes Approval and Confirmation of Email Board Votes
The minutes for the May 22 Board Meeting were approved. There were no email votes to be approved.

Student Services Committee Report

Linda reported that student group has been active and are planning events for the upcoming school year. The student night is planned for February 3rd and they are looking for program ideas. Chris offered assistance in securing vendor sponsorship for the event.

Treasurer’s Report

Anna reported that it was a quiet summer and there were no financial transactions. There is currently $8913.56 in the checking account and $4891.65 in the mutual fund.

Interface Editor Report

Frances is gathering articles for the fall issue of Interface.

Archives Chair Report
Jean reported that she is looking for additional committee members to work on the group’s archives. She would also like approval to purchase a book published by the American Society of Archivists that would be a valuable resource for the group and stay with the group’s Archivist. The board approved the purchase.

Jean also checked with John Latham in the national office and we do not need to keep the membership rosters from past years. SLA can give us the names of members for any given year. There is an open issue about submitting the Chapter’s archives to the UW. UW requires that you give up ownership of any materials that become part of their collection. SLA has required microfiche copies before this can happen. She is waiting on a decision regarding this.

Chapter Web Site
Sue proposed that the Chapter purchase a new web editing software package. The group discussed some options and Dreamweaver was the best choice for these tasks. The package will cost between $300-400. Becky moved that the purchase of Dreamweaver be approved. The motion passed unanimously.

Chapter Membership
Becky received a request from Bill Kennedy at Seattle Public Library to receive a hard copy membership directory for the Chapter. The group discussed this and determined that we can refer them to the full SLA Who’s Who directory. Sue will also check into whether we can provide a link to this from the Chapter’s web site.

Chapter Budget

Becky distributed Nola Sterling’s report on the Grants and Awards Committee and proposed that the board hold a separate meeting to discuss the creation of a fixed budget. Becky will call the meeting and communicate dates to the larger group.

Becky received a request from the Association of Law Librarians to co-sponsor a teleconference on Libraries and anti-terrorism measures. The board discussed it and it was decided that this topic is of more interest to public and academic Libraries.

Programming

Christina is working on plans for the December holiday meeting. Suggestions for the location included the Tacoma Museum of Glass, State History Museum, Seattle Art Museum and the Asian Art Museum. The Suzallo Library on the UW campus is re-opening after extensive renovations in November and would provide a great venue for the event. Christina will check into availability and dates.

Chris is going to check into procedures and costs for accepting credit card for event registration costs. In the past this option has been too expensive, but it may be a viable option for this year. He will report back to the group.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:41 PM.
Minutes submitted by Lauri Ellis.
