Online Directory of Special Libraries in Pittsburgh and VicinityList of
Libraries
This online directory updates and extends the
Directory of Special
Libraries in Pittsburgh and Vicinity,
the last version of which came out in print in 1994.
This version covers
special libraries in Western Pennsylvania and the
northern, central and
eastern parts of West Virginia. Currently, there are
168 libraries in
this directory.
Corporate, government, law, medical and newspaper libraries are included, as well as archives, academic libraries, and public libraries with special collections. See the chart below to get an idea of how the types of library breakdown. Data on individual entries includes mailing address, and, where available, URL, contact data for staff, and holdings and services of interest.
Number of academic libraries: 77
Corporate libraries: 24 Government: 6 Law: 18 Medical: 17 Museum: 7 Public: 8 Special: 23 Definitions: "Special" here means archives, historical centers, research centers and nonprofits or associations. Fifteen libraries operate in more than one category (i.e., Academic/Medical, Academic/Law, Academic/Special, Government/Medical). The chart graphic was adjusted to exclude medical, law and "special" libraries from the Academic category. If you see information that is out-of-date or wrong, please feel free to update it for your institution via this form, which also may be used to add a new library. If you have questions or comments, please send to adele@andrew.cmu.edu. This project was brought into being with the work of a few dedicated library school students. Special thanks to Lu Xiaoyong, Barbara Brandon, Teresa Houk, Lillian Reynolds, Ed Hahn, and most recently, Bhuva Narayan. Original document release date: May
19, 2004.
