  OUR ORGANIZATION
Founded in 1922, the Pittsburgh Chapter has over 150 members who serve Pittsburgh industry, business, research, educational and technical institutions. We are employed by corporations, government agencies, public and university libraries, newspapers and other organizations requiring or providing specialized information.

The Special Libraries Association is an international professional organization of more than 12,500 members. Since its founding in 1909, SLA has worked to meet its goal to advance the leadership role of the special librarian/information professional by providing a variety of services to enhance it members' professional skills and advance the interest of the special libraries communities. The association is made up of 56 regional chapters (including the Pittsburgh Chapter), 28 subject divisions, and numerous committees. This structure provides opportunities for each member to participate in the association.

JOIN US

We invite librarians and information professionals working and residing in the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia area to join us in the Pittsburgh Chapter. Visit the SLA web site for more information on joining.

CONSULTATION INFORMATION FOR ORGANIZATIONS

The Special Libraries Association offers free consultations to organizations that are investigating ways to address their internal information needs. The Pittsburgh Chapter's Consultant is available for up to one half-day to assist in clarifying the organization's requirements and objectives for its information resources.

Consultations can assist with identifiying general issues, but SLA requirements do not permit the consultant to make specific recommendations. SLA International maintains a database of independent consultants who can be retained if the organization decides that more specific recommendations or guidance are necessary.

For more information on consulting services, check out this brief presentation.
