As a core supplier, this CDI division is able to develop an understanding of its customers overall business needs as well as the unique technical needs of their engineering projects.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Summary: Part-time position (24 to 32 hours) with working hours from 8:00am to 4:30pm on a weekday. This position is responsible for assisting in the overall operations of the information Center at the Chemical R&D Newtown Square Technology Center. Use latest information technology to perform research, classify materials, and help researchers seek information. Oversee cataloging, reference searching and document delivery functions. The initial part of this job will also involve in helping library move and reorganizing current holdings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform reference searches on technical literature, patents, market research, etc using a variety of latest internal and external information resources in print and electronic formats. Coordinate current awareness literature reports.
  • Oversee cataloging of routine library materials (print and electronic), perform cataloging of specialized materials, and assist with collection development and acquisitions processes. Coordinate with Manager on purchasing functions.
  • Maintain physical library space. Process new hard copy acquisitions.
  • Oversee records management process for lab notebooks using Sydney+ database.
  • Oversee document delivery function, including verification of citations and compilation of reports and statistics.
  • Coordinate with Managers to develop and deliver training (in-house and vendor-based) for corporate clients, especially in setting up on-line search strategies.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the library and information industry, and recommend new innovations and information resources.
  • Create promotional materials (such as newsletter) on resources and services
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited Library School.
Experience in general computer applications for word processing (MS Word preferred), spreadsheet (MS Excel preferred), presentation graphics (MS PowerPoint preferred) and email (MS Outlook preferred).
Experience using a variety of information resources, including online database systems (such as Dialog, Lexix-Nexis, STN, and other sources).
Experience with cataloging of library materials.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ideal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or science.
Ability to effectively interact with corporate clients, particularly R&D technical or business professionals.
Experience working in a corporate or special library.
Experience in cataloging/indexing.
Ability to assume a variety of roles related to research and information retrieval.

Other Requirements:
Must be able to communicate clearly using a telephone.
Must be able to input and retrieve information from a computer.
Must be able to retrieve material from shelves, book trucks, etc.
Must be able to transport materials weighting up to 30 lbs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Cataloger, CIP Upgrade will have shared responsibility for achieving CIP Upgrade Section objectives, including CIP (DLC, NLC, and UKM) record upgrades, original cataloging, NACO contribution, and WorldCat quality control. Also shares responsibility for 100% WorldCat Cataloging Partners work in conjunction with Blackwell Book Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The individual selected will perform various cataloging duties, including: upgrading CIP records from US (DLC), Canadian (NLC), and British (UKM) sources; other activities which support WorldCat quality control and enhancement, including NACO contribution; cataloging of original records; and database maintenance. The individual will keep detailed statistical records on activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLS degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of successful library experience, including copy cataloging (may be pre-MLS experience)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, and the MARCbooks format

Document Delivery Technician - Cranbury, NJ (6/16/08)

EMPLOYER:Infotrieve, founded in 1987, is one of the pioneers of the document delivery business and the scientific, technical, and medical (STM) content aggregation industry. The company initially built its business by performing library searches and providing document retrieval services for university professors at UCLA.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Document Delivery Technician is responsible for retrieving articles and book loans from library locations while ensuring turnaround objectives and high quality standards are met. This a part-time position with a minimum of 20 hours per week worked.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute library document delivery tasks, including: locate and photocopy articles from journals from the library ensuring quality and turnaround objectives are met.
  • Scan the copy using Fiery Remote Scan software storing it on the server and emailing the link to the article to the client, using Outlook.
  • Retrieve the appropriate print journal from the collection based on the client's request, make photocopies and re-shelve the material on the shelves.
  • Access the company's Internet site to update the status of the orders.
  • Unpack and shelve journals that arrive from the Library.
  • Assist client's who walk into the workroom needing help with making copies.
  • Contribute suggestions on document delivery process improvements.
  • Reference order as needed from library bibliographic tools to determine correct call numbers and whether the journal/book is available.
  • Handle internal and Interlibrary Book Loans
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General clerical experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Library Technician I - Delran, NJ (5/16/08)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Library Technician I is responsible for conducting the day-to-day Library Services duties required to deliver high-quality document delivery services to the STM Library client. Primary duties of the Library Technician I include processing all incoming document delivery and book loan requests, and providing front-line customer service for all client end-users.

  • Compile monthly statistics as required by the Operations Manager for invoicing and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate closely with other Library Services team members and work with other Infotrieve departments as needed, particularly the STM Library document fulfillment team
  • Contribute suggestions and workflow improvements regarding document delivery and library services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One to two years previous library experience a plus.
  • Must be able to work second shift-11:00AM to 7:30PM
  • Strong customer service orientation.

Digital Initiatives and Systems Librarian/Coordinator - Philadelphia, PA (5/6/08)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The University of the Arts University Libraries seeks an innovative, creative, and service-oriented individual to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise digital initiatives including the Libraries’ Web site and use of Web 2.0 tools, manage its electronic collections and services, and provide overall administrative support for the Libraries’ computer systems including its Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Millennium integrated library system and digital content management systems (MDID and CONTENTdm).

The incumbent will also coordinate support of the Libraries’ electronic systems and activities with the University’s information technology department. Serves, with other librarians, as an advisor to the Director of University Libraries on overall library policies and services, specifically providing advice and expertise on emerging technological trends and developments in academic libraries. Reports to the Director of University Libraries.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science preferred. Will consider equivalent advanced academic qualification in information technology.

At least one year experience managing an integrated library system, preferably the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. system, and/or experience managing a digital content management system. Demonstrated experience developing Web sites and Web 2.0 technologies for delivery of digital content and services. Working knowledge of metadata standards and Web authoring tools.

Experience in higher education, preferably in an academic library setting with some reference responsibilities. Background and/or strong interest in the arts preferred.
