Student membership applications are handled through SLA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Student membership is one of several levels of membership available. Student membership includes a subscription to the new monthly publication Information Outlook. At no additional membership cost, student members may affiliate with one chapter and one division. For additional details, please visit the SLA national headquarters website. You may then join online or download a membership form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). Student members enjoy a significantly reduced membership fee.
Professional organizations such as SLA depend upon the ideas, energy and enthusiasm of members to achieve a variety of goals. Active members develop valuable contacts as they interact on committees and projects. New members, who may feel intimidated by the size of the chapter and some large group meetings, will find it easier to become acquainted with people and feel at home by volunteering. The time served can be enjoyable and result in a professional network.
Beginning of each term of office, the President looks for volunteers. A telephone call or an e-mail message offering assistance is most welcome. If you have particular interests or experience, e.g., journalism, public relations, affirmative action, international relations, events planning, please feel free to call the President or any of the officers or committee chairs for more information or to volunteer. We look forward to working with you!
