Each year, the New York Chapter of the Special Libraries Association selects one student in a master's or doctoral degree program in library and information sciences to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

To apply for the 2008 SLA New York Chapter scholarship, complete this application form and e-mail (preferred) or mail requested materials to:

Completed applications MUST be received by Friday, October 10, 2008

Additional Materials to be Submitted 

A brief statement (100-200 words) explaining why you are pursuing your degree and what you hope to do with the degree after graduation.

A brief statement (100-200 words) explaining how you will use the SLA New York Chapter scholarship to pursue your academic goals.

A copy of your most recent transcript showing a minimum of 3.5 GPA (unofficial copies of transcripts are acceptable). Reports cards won't be accepted. New students to a program must submit a letter of acceptance from the institution.

A letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor, professor, or library-related employer.

A current resume.

Requirements

All applicants must be pursuing or planning to pursue a graduate degree in library science from one of these six New York area library schools: Columbia University, Long Island University, Pratt Institute, Queens College, Rutgers University, or St. John's University.

All applicants must be current members of SLA-New York Chapter.

All applicants must complete the application form and submit requested materials by October 3, 2008.

Criteria for Selection

Scholarship is awarded based on academic excellence/individual qualifications, recommendation letter, and answers to questions. The scholarship committee reviews all completed applications and selects the winner. The winner will be notified no later than October 10, 2008. The winner may be asked to attend and be recognized at the SLA-NY Chapter's annual business meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2008 if possible.

Reapplication 

Those who have previously applied for or been awarded the SLA New York Chapter scholarship are encouraged to apply again.
