SLA-CNY is the electronic discussion list of the Special Libraries Association New York Chapter.
The purpose of this list is to facilitate communication among New York Chapter members. Although the majority of the list consists of members of SLA, subscription is open to non-members as well.
HOW TO SUBSCRIBE TO SLA-CNY
Send an email to lists@lists.sla.org with the following text in the
body. Leave the subject field blank:
subscribe sla-cny [your email address] [firstname lastname]
Once you submit a request to subscribe and receive approval to join (usually in less than a day), you can manage your own subscription, which allows you to temporarily suspend e-mails, receive messages in digest form (once a day), or unsubscribe.
TO POST A MESSAGE TO THE CNY-SLA DISCUSSION LIST
To send a message to the entire list, send an email to sla-cny@lists.sla.org. Only approved subscribers are permitted to send messages to the list.
LIST USAGE
SLA-CNY can be an invaluable professional tool and members are encouraged to participate in discussions and post messages. Examples of messages relevant to this list include:
Announcements of upcoming chapter-related events and other business
Reference, cataloging and library procedure questions
Product queries and evaluations
Exchange offerings of books, journals, equipment, etc.
Opinions and views about library related issues.
Announcements from SLA and other information organizations
Useful training and workshops
Job postings
READ meeting announcements completely BEFORE you hit "REPLY." Many
postings on the list are notifications of upcoming events and request
an RSVP to register. However, the sender of the announcement is often
NOT the individual handling the RSVPs, and by simply replying to the
invitation without reading it through, your email will not be sent to
the correct person.
Inappropriate messages
Conversely, certain types of messages SHOULD NOT be posted to this list.
The following are examples of inappropriate messages. While SLA-CNY is not moderated, list members who post these kinds of messages may have their list privileges revoked:
Commercial product or service offerings (unless brought up in the context of a general discussion)
Resumes
Copyrighted materials posted without the permission of the copyright holder(s)
Messages that attack or slander other list members
Large file which consume system resources and may cause your message to be undeliverable or crash the host system
MANAGING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION
The default setting is to receive messages to your email address as they are contributed to the list. Alternatively, you may wish to change your member type to digest and receive all of the daily messages in one e-mail.
