subscribing to the *digest* of the listserv, which means you'll get
one long email everyday instead of several smaller ones. From the link
above, you can also view the archives of the listserv from 1995 to the
present- this can be of use if you don't want to clutter your Inbox or
if you just want to get an idea of what kind of jobs are often
advertised and what they require. |

Online Job/Resume Bank for
Librarians
Metro Magnet
The
Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) has created the METRO Magnet,
an online career center. The
METRO Magnet includes an online job bank and resume bank and an informational web site,
which went live on August 1, 2003. Brochures about the service are being mailed to METRO
member libraries. Job seekers, recent graduates and other library professionals
wishing to relocate to the METRO area can now post their resumes and search for job
announcements. Area librarians can use the site to look for new opportunities and
promotions. The METRO Magnet site includes links to Local Placement Firms, Library
Membership Organizations, Accredited LIS Schools and Financial Aid Information.
The METRO Magnet includes a variety of information to promote the advantages of working in
a METRO-area library. Main topics include:
* METRO Magnet Job and
Resume Bank: an online database that allows you to post job openings, to search through
resumes of job seekers to find job candidates, and to post resumes
* Working in the METRO
Area: a section that includes profiles of librarians and METRO member libraries to give
people a feel for the opportunities available here
* Growing Your Career
in the METRO Area: a section that provides an overview of the many opportunities for
professional development available in the METRO area through continuing education, METRO
special interest groups, and participation in local library organizations
* Moving to the METRO
Area: an introduction to New York City and Westchester County with links to a variety of
sites that provide more in-depth information on neighborhoods, finding housing, schools,
etc.
* Resources for job
seekers and for employers
This project is supported in part by Federal Library Services and Technology Act
funds awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library
Services.
