NCSLA Board Leadership Meeting
Oct. 2, 2006, 10:30 – 12:30
Notes by Eliza Robertson
Call to order; attended by Debbie Balsamo, Betty Jo Hibberd, Jennifer Klimas, Tamika McCollough, Eliza Robertson, Bonnie Toenniessen.
Announcement by Betty Jo that she is soon to relocate to Philadelphia, will continue working for Dialog Thompson I same capacity, but leaving her position with NCSLA Director with two years remaining. We’ll miss Betty Jo’s perspective and wisdom! Sperry [contacted by phone later] will see about filling the post.
Reports:
Debbie – Pres-Elect and Program Planning –
Bonnie – Treasurer – $13,167.92 in the bank
Tamika -- Professional Development Workshop at UNC Oct. 19. Joanie Olivier will present program on vendor relations. Eliza will send notice to NCLA, someone else to ANCHASL. Reported that we have 250 members as of August 30.
Jennifer – is making the transition to Communications Team Lead, taking over from Cindy McCracken; she’s looking for volunteers; may use dine-arounds as news gathering tools. She was given a couple of suggestions for Webmaster, says those skills can be used also in composing the online Bulletin.
Eliza reported for these, who had called or emailed reports:
Erin Knight – Past President and Vendor Relations is working on a brochure that can be sent to potential sponsors; targeting Nov. mailing for 2007 opportunities. She’ll ask membership for sponsor suggestions. Much discussion ensued about whether to rank sponsorship (silver, gold, platinum). BJ as the only vendor in the room says she prefers “levels”, such as “full sponsor, co-sponsor, supporting”. Discussion went to advertising in the Bulletin, which Bonnie will check on and get back to Erin.
Mike Crumpton – Academic Relations Confirming that the Sara Aull Award will be given in spring 2007; we need to get the word out since there may be some confusion after the transition in the Association year . Same goes for all the awards.
ACTION POINT: Mike, please write up an announcement for Communicates, now that students are now writing fall semester papers; ask for student news input?
Talked about encouraging SLA/Student group receptions at least once a year, not on the general orientation day.
Mike Crumpton – Diversity – offering a presentation that he’s pulled together for his own workplace.
Archives – Rebecca Vargha All’s well in the cage at UNC SILS.
Pres – Eliza recommends we consider at a later meeting supporting financially the attendance of the Treasurer to the Jan. Leadership Conference and/or Annual Meeting.
Also, we have openings for Charlotte Subgroup Liaison, Public Relations chair, and graphics support.
Meeting adjourned at 12:10 but was followed by lunch where more discussion ensued about Philly, Communications Team suggestions; need for reporters and Webmaster and Bulletin designer,
