Employer: The Mint Museums
Occupation/title: Librarian
Birthplace: York, PA
Birthday: March 29
Pets/children: Stanley the dog and 4 cats: Mimi the loud, Zoey the evil one, Joe Lewis the large, and Charlie the even larger.
Most relaxing activity: Besides reading? Walking the dog with my partner John.
Last good movie/concert/event I saw: Carol King last summer - she was absolutely fantastic and even though I've loved her work for years I was still amazed at all the songs she has written. Brilliant!
Major accomplishment: Getting my library degree in 2001. Going back to school at 40-something while still working was not easy, but I actually enjoyed it.
Favorite food group: Cheese! Being lactose intolerant would be like a little bit of hell.
If I won the lottery, I would: Share the wealth! One good Powerball could do a lot.
Favorite website: www.amanitadesign.com Two Flash games that can be played through the site Samorost and Samorost2 (finally out!) are great puzzles and the little guy is so cute! Warning if accessed at work: It sucks you in.
Last good book I read: Kurt Vonnegut's A Man Without a Country
Most influenced by: Tough one. The people I love - that I am always learning from, and those from whom I've learned whatever sort of lesson - even if at the time I wanted to kick them down the street. Emma Peel? Does she count?
If I weren't a librarian, I'd be: miserable. Now that I've finally figured out what to be when I grow up, I'd hate to not be doing it. You know, unless I won the lottery . . . .
What I really like about my job is: The Aha! Moment - when I'm able to help someone discover something they didn't know AND working with the incredible special collections at the Mint.
My favorite SLA memory is: so far the program mentioned below
Positions I've held or work I've done for SLA: Currently, I'm treasurer for the Museums, Arts & Humanities Division and just hosted a great program at the Mint that was a joint meeting of the NC and SC Chapters of SLA.
The one thing I really hate to do in the library is: type bookplates.
People would be surprised to know that I: sang in a rock and roll band once upon a time.
